A long list of competitors and good weather is promising upwards of 3,000 for the event at the football oval tomorrow night.
Hopefuls looking to reach the eight-second mark this year will have to contend with Cold Stone and Hell Bound — among 25 bulls for bareback and riding events.
Speaking to The Standard ahead of the gates opening, organiser and rodeo identity Tony Woodall was optimistic.
“I reckon we’ll have record crowds this year the way the weather is shaping up,” Mr Woodall said.
Bands and children’s events will run alongside the show.
The rodeo — now in it’s 15th year helps keep many of the district’s groups afloat, especially the Dartmoor Football and Netball Club.
“The town just needed something to keep people coming in,” Mr Woodall said.
The rodeo is now one of the most popular in the south-west.
“Just getting 3000 people into town helps the town. It’s kept the football club going,” he said.
Dartmoor Football and Netball Club president Lee Lipscombe said the value of the rodeo couldn’t be understated.
“It’s the only way to run the club for the rest of the year,” Mr Lipscombe said.
“It might mean we’re able to upgrade some of the facilities.”
The rodeo kicks off Saturday night at 6.30pm.
