Westvic Staffing Solutions was yesterday one of the organisations which has contributed to the cause by providing $15,000.
Chief executive officer Miles Coverdale said it was the single biggest donation the organisation has ever made.
“Over the years we’ve provided almost $1 million to supporting young people,” he said.
“Because we cover and support the wider community — we represent Portland, Hamilton, Colac, Camperdown and Warrnambool — we know that this is a project really worthy of our support and we want to make a contribution where all sites will benefit, particularly those individuals affected by cancer.
“Cancer is something that affects all sectors of our community and to have an integrated cancer care centre located in our region would be the best possible outcome for anyone touched by the disease and for their families.”
The Peter’s Project appeal aims to raise $5 million towards the building of an integrated cancer care centre in Warrnambool.
The planned cancer care centre will provide much-needed radiotherapy treatment, various cancer services and support to people with cancer in a friendly and welcoming environment.
Peter’s Project founder Vicki Jellie welcomed the contribution which she said was very generous.
“For an entity like this to support their own community we’re very grateful that they’ve thought about us,” she said,
“People that work for them have obviously been touched by cancer.”
The funding was provided through the Westvic Staffing Solutions Foundation which is celebrating its 10th anniversary.
