The event will be hosted at St John of God Hospital Warrnambool on July 18 as part of National Diabetes Week.
The hospital’s diabetes educator Ann Morris and clinical psychologist Jodie Fleming will lend their expertise on self-management.
“It is not uncommon for people with a chronic condition such as diabetes to suffer burn out in managing their health,” Mrs Morris said.
“The daily routine can be tiring and relentless but it is important that everyone with diabetes remains vigilant and effective in their management.”
The forum will discuss the psychological barriers that can impair effective long-term management and therapeutic interventions that can help when the going gets tough.
“It’s about taking a psychologically-sensitive approach to managing and understanding the relentless demands of the condition. If people maintain good diabetes control they will feel better,” Mrs Morris said.
People interested in attending the event on July 18 from 1pm to 4pm in the St John of God Warrnambool Hospital function room are encouraged to contact the diabetes educators on 5563 4555 or 5563 4570.
