He had the huge crowd tapping along with the Crowded House classic It’s Only Natural and punters sang along for the finale Weather With You.
A barefoot Finn embraced the Folkie atmosphere and captivated both young and old.
He told the crowd he was happy to be in the coastal town at a festival that had been running almost as long as he had.
He told The Standard the crowd had been one of a kind. “It’s a fantastic, unique crowd,” he said.
“You have a crowd where you get a real reception, it’s special.
“They listen. Then they think about it. Then they applaud. I kind of like that
“The support they give feels very genuine. I feel grateful for the experience.”
Finn has been part of Australia’s music scene since the mid-1970s and is best known from multiple ventures with his brother Neil, including Split Enz, Crowded House and the Finn Brothers.
Finn said he was looking forward to catching other acts at the Folkie, including Glen Hansard, but also having a dip in the ocean.
“Driving in to Warrnambool, it’s a very unique and beautiful part of Australia,” he said.
He said the festival had a good vibe which most musicians would like. “It’s laid back and casual which is what musicians love,” he said. “It feels really good.”
After the Folkie Finn said he’d head straight back to New Zealand and be with his children.
“I’ll just go back home to be a dad. I’ve got my kids at home,” he said.
