It’s Valentine’s Day again and Warrnambool flower and gift shops have been taking orders for the past week for what is traditionally their second busiest day of the year behind Mothers’ Day.
The Flower Gallery owner Tania Ludeman said this year romantics were branching out beyond just flowers.
“It’s about extras, chocolate, soft toys, balloons, people want the whole package,” she said.
And other florists agree that although women are more organised with gifts, men are more generous and spend more money.
Portland Florists’ Carol Bradley said people need not to spend a lot to show they care.
“You can just buy a $2.50 chocolate rose or a gerbera to make someone’s day,” Mrs Bradley said.
And many lovestruck types leave it to the last minute — most florists expect to sell two weeks’ worth of flowers today.
