Acting Sergeant Sean Elliott said the pursuit began in Oswald Street, Portland, about 3.45am yesterday when police tried to intercept a dark-coloured Holden Commodore.
The car, which had a male occupant, sped off and failed to stop, despite the police vehicle’s lights and sirens being activated.
The pursuit proceeded across town to the Henty Highway and headed north to Heathmere before police ended the chase because of the dangerous speeds reached.
Acting Sergeant Elliott said a check of the vehicle’s registration number revealed it had been reported stolen.
He asked anyone with information about the incident to contact Portland police.
