Weir said it was impossible to separate his two runners, Hurdy Gurdy Man and Chord, in the feature of the eight-race program.
Hurdy Gurdy Man scored an impressive win in the Woodford Cup at Warrnambool on Sunday, while Chord kicked off his summer campaign with a second placing in a restricted race over 1400 metres at Caulfield on Boxing Day.
“I really can’t split them. They are both fit and well and I’m sure they will both be competitive,” Weir said.
“Hurdy Gurdy Man has been trained at our Warrnambool stables under the care of Daniel Bowman.
“Daniel told me the horse has done really well since his win last week.
“He’s trained in Warrnambool so it was obvious we would run him in the Koroit Cup.
“Chord has had one run back in for this campaign. He’s in work up here at Ballarat.
“He’s improved since his Caulfield run. It was a good effort. I’m sure both horses will be suited by the 1700 metres of the race.”
Weir said he was undecided which path to go down with Hurdy Gurdy Man following his Koroit Cup run.
His two main options are the $225,000 group 3 Hobart Cup over 2400 metres on February 10 or the $350,000 listed Mornington Cup over 2400 metres on February 13.
“We’ll just see how Hurdy Gurdy Man goes in the Koroit Cup before finalising any plans for future runs,” Weir said.
“He’s got up in the weights a fair bit from his Woodford Cup run to the Koroit Cup but he’s a good horse.
“Our long plan goal for Chord would be to win a city race with him but like Hurdy Gurdy Man we’ll just see how he goes in the Koroit Cup.”
