A car and truck collided on a straight stretch of the Princes Highway, 13 kilometres east of Colac, on the Geelong side of the railway crossing, just before 7am.
It is believed the car veered into the path of the truck travelling in the opposite direction.
The car burst into flames and the 23-year-old driver died at the scene, while the driver of the truck, a Colac man, received minor injuries.
The Princes Highway was closed between Warncoort-Birregurra Road and Birregurra Road until about noon, while emergency services directed traffic on site.
