NEW and talented musicians have recently joined the Warrnambool Pipe Band and the Scottish ensemble still has room for more.
The band regularly competes in Victoria and interstate, with its next contest at the Daylesford Highland Gathering on December 1.
Musicians include pipers, snare or side drummers, tenor drummers and a single bass drummer.
Drum tutor Peter Moir has been involved with the band for about 25 years and said that as a local country group they regularly needed new members.
“At the moment we’re going through a rebuilding phase with teenagers moving on to school and work, so at the moment it’s just part of that cycle, where again we’re looking for new members,” Mr Moir said.
He said being part of the band was a chance to have fun while achieving musical success.
“It’s fun learning a musical instrument and discipline and also being part of a large family group and just sharing that common interest.
“In past years we have won many state and national championships and also we’ve gone to New Zealand a couple of times in the last 10 years.
“Part of our program is we don’t charge a weekly tuition fee. There are some basic start-up costs, and even with that we encourage people to come along and try it for a month.”
