The Warrnambool Kart Club driver is competing in the inaugural combined club day in Portland tomorrow.
Cook, who took up the sport six years ago, said he wasn't interested in the serious side of racing.
He said this attitude had kept him out of trouble for much of his career behind the wheel.
"I'm not setting the world on fire or anything," he said.
"I'm not going out there to break any records.
"I'm pretty much just out there for the fun of it."
The hard-working tradesman had a two-year absence from karting before he returned to the track three months ago.
Cook said his time was being consumed by his job.
The 33-year-old has lured the co-tenant of his work space, Mick Wackett, to try his hand at the sport.
Wackett, who owns a window tinting business, will make his debut tomorrow.
"Sometimes I'm at work for 60-70 hours a week and Mick spends a lot of time there as well," Cook said.
"We got sick of being in the work shed all of the time.
"Sometimes you've just got to shut the door and go out and do something."
Despite Cook's "clean slate" in his short time on the track, he admitted there might be some rivalry between the pair.
"There will be fierce competition between the pair of us," he laughed.
Cook is also considering a return to the golf course.
At his peak, the Warrnambool Golf Club member played off a handicap of two.
But the former Corangamite country week representative said he enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere of go-karting.
"I played golf my whole life but I just got sick of it," he said.
"I always wanted to get into it (karting) and it's something a bit different to golf. There's not as much pressure."
About 50 drivers from Portland, Warrnambool and Hamilton are expected to compete at Yarraman Park this weekend.
Cook said he was excited to race on one of his favourite circuits.
"It's good fun to drive," he said. "Every track has got its tricky parts but this is a high speed track with plenty of grip."
Racing starts at 10.30am and spectators are welcome.
