THE SMILE was hard to wipe off racehorse trainer Ciaron Maher's face when he scored a double of a different kind. The Winslow horseman yesterday proved he was just as handy a jockey as he is a trainer. He joined girlfriend Bianca Gilchrist in the Shipwreck Coast Showjumping Championships' novelty feature, the rescue relay. Event secretary Noel Kenna said the race couldn't have been scripted better."Ciaron said he hadn't jumped for a long time and he managed to pull off a win here and also at the races," Kenna said. Also yesterday, Maher's horse Moudre took out the $15,000 1700-metre maiden plate at the Koroit Cup, held at the Warrnambool racecourse.Tynong North Showjumper Greg Smith partnered Henry Higgs to take out the championship's A grade title.Kenna said the competition was evenly spread this year."There were riders which won which hadn't won a single event here in the past, it was great,'' he said."All competitors seemed to enjoy the event. ''They were riding on 100-year-old kikuyu grass. ''It was beautiful and spongy and had plenty of give for the horses."The championships, held in Warrnambool over three days, attracted Australian Beijing Olympian Laurie Lever, who finished eighth with Chancellor in the combined C and D grade championship.
