TERANG Golf Club champion Marion Venn must hold off defending titleholder Alison Sinclair tomorrow to claim her first Warrnambool Golf Club crown.Venn carries a three-shot lead into the final round of the 72-hole women's championship but can expect Sinclair to challenge during the final round on her home course. The three-time Terang champ tops the leaderboard with a 54-hole score of 254 (88, 83, 83), ahead of Sinclair 257 (88, 86, 83), Dianna Robinson 262 (89, 84, 89) and Narelle Brown 265 (90, 88, 87).Women's and men's titles will be decided tomorrow in Warrnambool and Port Fairy, capping a busy month of competition for the clubs.Jarrod Fary leads the men's field at the halfway mark of the Warrnambool men's championship with an aggregate score of 151, a shot clear of defending titleholder Steve Malone. The final two rounds will be played today and tomorrow.Venn has made rapid progress since entering the sport of golf in 2001 after a series of knee injuries curtailed her netball, basketball, tennis and squash pursuits. She reduced her handicap to nine in 2007 and currently plays off 11.Venn has played alongside Sinclair in the first three rounds and is looking forward to another 18 holes of friendly rivalry.``We're good friends,'' she said.``I'm just trying to keep consistent and play one hole at a time ... if you play a bad hole try not to let it get on top of you.``Each week I've felt like there's something I could have done better. On Wednesday I felt like it was all pretty consistent. I felt like I left a few putts out there but on another day they'll drop.''If Sinclair can bridge the gap to the overnight leader she will have a shot at her fifth consecutive women's title, which would equal the record of Shirley Barker.A strong football flavour pervades B grade with Paul Cornelissen and Mick McArlein battling out the title on aggregate totals of 164 and 167 respectively. Portland golfer Nicholas Hoggan leads a compact Port Fairy Golf Club championship field on 157 (80, 77) from club vice-president John Rahilly 158 (80, 78) and Les Johnson 159 (82, 77).Former winner Anne Dwyer holds a substantial lead in the women's championship after three rounds.
