The Warrnambool College student is preparing for his VCE exams but will take a much-needed break from revision.
"It's always good to get out of school and home and do something," he said.
Threlfall only played a handful of division one matches last year but has been promoted to the top side to replace injured keeper Luke Gannon.
He said he was determined to hold his spot in the top side, whether it be with the bat or gloves.
"I just try to do the best I can," he said.
"(As a wicketkeeper) you're always involved and never really out of it.
"I'll just have to keep doing my part and making runs."
The 17-year-old has spent all his cricket career at West. He followed his father Shane to the club and started playing in the under 13s.
Threlfall has joined the growing list of young wicketkeepers in the association, with Dennington's Liam Youl and Merrivale's Ben Dalton. The Warrnambool College student said he rarely noticed the age differences with older players .
"There's a lot of us who are pretty young," he said.
"I try not to think about it.
"My coach (Andrew Robb) is pretty good, he doesn't put any pressure on me."
Threlfall made a respectable 25 runs in the Warrnambool and District Cricket Association season opener against Brierly.
But the Panthers missed out on taking revenge in the washed-out grand final rematch with Allansford.
The teenager said his club was keen to get a division one win on the board.
"Every team in the division has won a game except for us," he said.
"So we will be looking for the win. Our division three guys are going all right so it would be good if we could start winning too."
Threlfall is hoping for a smooth cricket season after he broke his arm playing in a school football competition in June.
"I like cricket more than footy anyway so I just made sure that I would be right for cricket."
