A PROPOSED wind farm at Woorndoo is under threat with Moyne Shire councillors to vote tomorrow on whether to grant the developers an extension on their construction starting date.

Work on the Salt Creek Wind Energy Facility (WEF) was supposed to have started by November 4 according to the initial permit.
The wind farm’s developers New En Pty Ltd applied in August for an extension as it was now “intending to combine the development of Salt Creek WEF with the proposed (nearby) Dundonnell WEF and develop both simultaneously”.
According to tomorrow’s Moyne Shire Council meeting agenda, “the decision as to whether or not Dundonnell WEF is permitted will strongly influence whether Salt Creek WEF is developed or not”.
Council officers have recommended the application for extension be rejected, keeping in line with the councillors’ rejection of similar requests regarding the Ryan Corner and Hawkesdale wind farms in August.
The Salt Creek WEF was expected to involve up to 15 turbines with an output about 29.9 megawatts.
Other items on the agenda for tomorrow’s meeting include:
n a vote on whether to keep the postal voting system in place for the municipal election on October 27, 2012;
n a plan to increase the fine for wandering stock from $300 to $600 for second offences;
n a follow-up to a panel hearing regarding the controversial King Street development in Koroit, with council looking to limit the “vertical and horizontal scale” of the project to keep it in with “the rural village character of the town”;
n a decision on providing universal access to the Koroit Theatre as part of its upgrade.
