Brendan Drummond, of Sawyer, Hill and Brooks, finished just 85 points behind the winner Bluethunder.
The winner received $50,000. However, the top four entrants made a deal before the grand final for the winner to pay second place $5000, third place $3000 and fourth $2000.
The grand final last weekend was marred by a string of big name withdrawals as teams rested key players.
Mr Drummond yesterday suggested bringing the dream team season forward to the start of the season to make the competition less susceptible to key players not playing.
He said he had taken part in the fantasy concept since it was introduced about five years ago.
“You put about 10 hours in before the start of the season and keep an eye on who’s in and out and the best kids coming through.
"My best trades were the blokes I picked up early like Tom Rockliff, Michael Barlow and James Podsiadly,” he said.
