South West Cricket's two-time reigning premier Pomborneit got its hat-trick campaign off to a promising start yesterday.In the opening round of 2009-10, the Bulls glided past Port Campbell's lowly 61. They smashed 2-294, which included an exceptional unbeaten 171 from wicketkeeper Tim Place. Last season's runner-up Mortlake accounted for Cobden while the two remaining matches were tussles. Noorat edged out Camperdown by eight runs while Terang claimed a five-run victory over Bookaar.In the Warrnambool and District Cricket Association's second round, Dennington meted out a 106-run hiding to Wesley CBC.This came despite a 97-run innings from Wesley opener David Tucker. West Warrnambool knocked off Russells Creek by 48 runs, with West's Luke Gannon notching up 65, not-out.The anticipated match-of-the-round between Nestles and Brierly descended walk-over.Nestles dished up a 170-run drubbing to Wesley, with Nestles' opener Cameron Williams hitting 77. Allansford will play Merrivale today at Allansford.In the second round of Grassmere Cricket Association, Yambuk upset reigning premier Panmure Bulldogs while Mailors Flat defeated Wangoom in a low-scoring affair. Purnim fell 19 runs short of chasing down Killarney's 140.Read more in tomorrow's Standard.
