AS many south-west families try to keep their finances in check, help is at hand for young and expectant mothers who can pick up a bargain and some free parenting advice at the annual Baby and Child Bonanza.Bonanza co-ordinator Tanya Morrison Gass said the event, hosted by the Warrnambool branch of the Australian Breastfeeding Association, was an opportunity for families to get everything they need for their new baby at a fraction of the usual cost."This year's Bonanza looks set to be the biggest and best yet," she said."As the economic recession hits many in the region, parents are looking for ways to save on the significant costs of having a new baby ? looking to buy good quality second-hand and discounted new items."We have created a remarkable opportunity for families of the South West to make many valuable community connections, and for those simply after a bargain."Ms Morrison Gass said the event would feature more than 50 stalls offering a range of quality second-hand goods and "nearly new items"."We've also been approached this year by a number of local craft producers and we have specialty handmade items such as quilts, baby clothes and even screen-printed T-shirts - locally designed and made,'' she said.Giveaways on the day will also include free membership of the Australian Breastfeeding Association (ABA) for the first new member inquiry, and free showbags for the first 200 shoppers.Qualified Australian Breastfeeding Association counsellors and representatives will also be available to offer mothers breastfeeding information and parenting support. The Baby and Child Bonanza will be held at St Pius Hall, Morriss Road, Warrnambool, on Saturday from 10am to 1pm.Entry is by gold coin donation which assists volunteers from the local branch of the ABA to provide ongoing services.
