The 10-year-old had his scooter stolen from their Merrivale Drive house just days before Christmas.
But a south-west husband and wife, who wish to remain anonymous, saw John’s story and gave him $260 to buy a new scooter.
John’s father David said his son was gobsmacked by the couple’s donation. “He couldn’t believe it. It’s fantastic,” Mr Waterfield said.
“A lot saw the story and were really supportive.
“I’m pleased with the paradoxical way it has worked out.
“Some scumbag has stolen his scooter and since then we have met a thousand good-hearted people.”
The scooter was stolen after his son saved up to buy it.
John started playing the didgeridoo when he was six and was invited to perform at Cobden’s New Year’s Eve celebrations.
“The number of people that have tapped him on the shoulder and encouraged him has been fantastic,” David said. “It’s really picked him up.”
