A TARRINGTON family whose son was inadvertently left for dead by paramedics after a horrific crash say his progress is a miracle.

Daniel Huf, 30, was declared dead by paramedics after a crash in Bacchus Marsh last month.
A State Emergency Service volunteer involved in the clean-up of the crash realised the badly injured man still had a weak pulse and called the ambulance crew back.
Mr Huf suffered life-threatening injuries when his Porsche struck another vehicle and flipped on the Western Highway.
Yesterday, he was discharged from the Royal Melbourne Hospital.
His parents, Colin and Betty, together with their second son Steven, said his progress had amazed his doctors and nurses.
“We know that it is a miracle that Daniel can walk, read, speak some recognisable words, write logical messages and recognise his visitors,” he said.
“God has truly embraced Daniel and sustained his life at a time when the normal signs of life were not detectable immediately after his accident.”
The family praised the two paramedics who performed life-saving treatment on Mr Huf as the ambulance took him to The Royal Melbourne Hospital and also the hospital’s “wonderful” staff. Mr Huf will face more surgery on his mouth and face and will be given specialist help for his swallowing, food intake and speech.
Deputy director of the hospital’s intensive care unit Chris MacIsaac said staff held grave concerns for Mr Huf when he was admitted to the ICU.
“Watching a patient progress from life support to discharge is very rewarding and we all wish Daniel the best in his continued recovery,” he said.
In April an Ambulance Victoria review found the paramedics did not follow strict criteria for determining the death of a patient at the scene.
Ambulance Victoria chief executive Greg Sassella said the paramedics would not be rostered on to work together and one had been removed from his position as a paramedic educator.
