SOUTH-WEST acts will join international artists from Germany and East Timor at next year's Port Fairy Folk Festival.Half the tickets for the 34th annual event have been sold in less than a week, with the rest expected to be snapped up soon.Among the overseas acts that will be taking to the arena stages on March 5-8 are English folk singer Vin Garbutt, fiddle-driven Quebecer group Genticorum, Americana singer Eilen Jewell, East Timor's Ego Lemos, Scottish singer-songwriter Dougie MacLean, mega-selling Irish artist Eleanor McEvoy, American multi-instrumentalist John McCutcheon, country-blues singer Charlie Parr and country artist Kim Richey. As already announced by The Standard, they join fellow internationals The Greencards, part-time Aussie/American Colin Hay, Brian Kennedy and Chris Smither.Other overseas acts on the bill include Narasirato Pan Pipers, Mairtin O'Connor Band, Lulo Reinhardt Band, Emily Smith & Jamie McClennan, Uncle Earl and Josh White Jr, with more to be announced.The south-west's rich musical vein has also been mined, with Folkie regular Shane Howard, indigenous singer-songwriter Archie Roach, roots act The Tom Richardson Project, funky soul-pop band Tank Dilemma, country group Louie & The Rustlers, rockabilly kings The Sky Rockats, and Damian Howard & The Ploughboys all to play on the March long weekend.National artists also on the program include The Badloves, Jim Conway's Big Wheel, Troy Cassar-Daley, Ted Egan, Sal Kimber & The Rollin' Wheel, Mick Thomas & The Sure Thing, Bonjah, Jen Cloher & The Endless Sea, Claymore, Kavish Mazzella Trio and The Pigram Brothers. The Folkie program will be officially launched tomorrow from 5pm at Charlie's On East in the Port Fairy Surf Club. Louie & The Rustlers and The Tom Richardson Project will perform at the launch."This is a huge event and up there with the best folk festivals on the planet," festival director Jamie McKew said."We are excited to be presenting another huge festival in the great south-west.
