The Deakin University students generated $700 for the Leukaemia Foundation as part of the annual World’s Greatest Shave fund-raiser when they received a close cut on Saturday.
Mr Medwin said it was an unusual feeling to have lost his shoulder-length hair after more than six years of long flowing locks.
The third-year psychology student said he was inspired by friend and former Family First candidate Jahzeel Concepcion, who parted with her 115-centimetre hair for the fund-raiser last year.
“I’m friends with Jahzeel at the Coast City Church and thought that if she could shave her knee-length hair I could do the same to mine,” the 48-year-old said.
“It feels pretty weird to have it cut short. It was reasonably warm on the weekend so I’ve enjoyed having the air flow a bit more freely on the top of my head.”
Ms Wise said everyone has been touched by cancer either directly or through family and friends.
Hamilton friends Natalie McGregor and Will Densley raised about $3200 before their shaving event started last week in a separate fund-raiser for the Leukaemia Foundation.
