AT: Great to see some of the Warrnambool council workers really getting behind the Melbourne to Warrnambool bike race but unfortunately one of the council’s great white hopes has struck an unexpected hurdle.

TA: This sounds tasty, who are we taking aim at?
AT: Not taking aim Tim just explaining a situation involving former star footballers Lynden “Dockers” Attrill. Now Dockers has been working at the council the past couple of years and in recent weeks he went out and purchased a flash new bike. Colleagues who know a bit about bikes were stunned by just how much Dockers fell in love with his new mode of transport. He’s always out cleaning it, won’t leave it outside in the weather and carries it up stairs to park it beside his work desk every day. But unfortunately the bike is no longer in pristine condition. Appears Dockers was riding home and admiring his bike so much that he wasn’t paying attention and rode straight into the back of a parked car. Dockers has been able to ride it to work but apparently only a couple of the 12 gears now work and the former Creek and South premiership player has been copping plenty from workmates.
TA: I was wondering what morning tea was like at city hall on Tuesday morning after people power took over a meeting regarding selling the saleyards on Monday night.
AT: I reckon the mood was pretty sombre among Bruce and his lieutenants. Mayor Mike Neoh gained a bit of respect because at least he stuck up his hand for what he believed in.
TA: The timing was a bit sad as No.1 council bean-counter Kevin Leddin celebrated his 50th birthday and they reckon there was no extra in the budget to put a few candles on the cake.
AT: I managed to duck up to the Warrnambool footy club the other night but I was a little disappointed I couldn’t win a prize in the raffle. The Blues do a good raffle and about half the crowd gets something. But there were a couple of people even less happy after winning but going home empty-handed. SES chieftain Gerry Billings sometimes wins a prize and always donates it to someone less well off, a pensioner or someone like that. Painter Splinter Hall managed to point out a couple of meat and veggie packs sitting around the other night and Gerry gave them away, which was fine and dandy until the owners came looking for them.
TA: We must acknowledge the achievement of Michael “Tocka” O’Keefe. The former Dennington cricketer played in another premiership last week. It’s his third flag win with the Yarraville club in the last four years.
AT: Tocka was also a handy footballer with South Warrnambool.
TA: He’s been coaching Sunshine seniors but stood down from the role this year and will instead coach the under 12s .
AT: Plenty of drama out Dennington way last weekend with Tubby Kelson having a few problems with the new flash roller. Apparently the roller broke down and was stuck at one end of the wicket, which could have made play in the division two semi-final a bit interesting. Tubby had to call on club head honcho Terry Beks to get a vehicle and tow the roller off the ground.
TA: The Murray to Moyne Bike ride is on again this weekend and one of the groups involved will be once again called Warrnambool Lattes. They average raising $16,000 a year, which is donated to Vantage. Apparently the group take the whole thing pretty serious and have a photo taken at Mildura before they set off on the long ride. They love being in front at Hamilton and reckon they have led the charge for the past 11 years.
TA: I hear that Ellie Reid is thinking about starting up an Optus shop in the old Ray White building on the corner of Liebig and Lava Street.
AT: Footy news. Former Warrnambool and Penshurst premiership player Justin Eales is apparently on $900 a game with Stawell and Robbie Gregg is only going to be playing a handful of games for Merrivale. Simon Seddon has put in a clearance to Goulburn Valley and Jason Bourke could be heading back to Queensland. WDFNL premier Kolora-Noorat may not be as strong as last year, or Port Fairy is a fair bit better. The Power easily won a practice match against the Seagulls last year but that result was recently reversed in a rematch. And I hear the Koroit cricketers are going to have to dig into their finances to replace the division two perpetual shield, which has gone missing and has to be replaced. Until next week, hooroo.
