A large, wooden crate hiding almost 157 kilograms of methamphetamine was allegedly seized at the Australian border and police are working to identify the sender and the intended recipient.

More than 200 packages of methamphetamine were allegedly packed into ten boxes and hidden in the wooden shipping crate among packing equipment, police said.
Australian Federal Police have been investigating the case since December 29 when border officers flagged the alleged drug shipment sent from Germany to Sydney Airport.
"Transnational drug syndicates which attempt to flood Australia with border controlled drugs are motivated solely by greed and personal gain," AFP detective acting superintendent Colin Hunt said.
"Across Australia, there were 10,100 methamphetamine-related hospitalisations in 2021-2022, which equates to more than 27 every day on average," detective acting superintendent Hunt said.
