From live music to food and wine, light shows, arts and gatherings for the deep-thinkers; there's something for everyone.
Here's some of the many winter events and festivals to brighten the cooler months.
NSW
Celebrate the winter solstice in the Blue Mountains at Katoomba's Winter Magic Festival.
On June 24 the main street will be transformed with the traditional parade before revellers meander among stalls, food and art, live music and sideshows.
There's entertainment for the kids and fireworks in the evening.

Across four days Murray River border towns Echuca and Moama will become a haven for blues lovers.
The free event features artists performing at 15 local pubs and venues from July 27 to 30.
Vineyards, outdoor stages and even a luxury river cruiser will play host to performers.
It's Christmas in July at Ballarat's Sovereign Hill as the gold rush museum transforms from June 24 to July 16.
