New LinkedIn data shows waning demand for workers but some industries are still experiencing acute skills shortages.
LinkedIn ANZ managing director Matt Tindale said the return to the office trend was reflected in the numbers, with administrative and support hiring growing by 119 per cent during 2022.
Hiring across government services was up 94 per cent and 90 per cent in utilities.
Other sectors, such as healthcare, education and manufacturing, also recruited more workers over the 12 months but the year-on-year growth was more modest.
Despite the elevated hiring rate for in-person roles, workers still prefer working from home.
Jobs offering remote work options receive about twice the number of applications.
Mr Tindale told AAP there were hiring freezes in some industries but others were still looking for talent.
"The declining hiring rate is reflective of the current economic conditions, with businesses scaling back their hiring activity due to a flux in the economy and to mitigate the impact of rising costs.
"Smart job seekers will look to these sectors for future opportunities."
