Steve Middleton woke up at 4.30am to go fishing and found teens wearing makeshift masks allegedly rifling through his cars.
The Gold Coast man made the quick decision to throw on some underpants before confronting the thieves who allegedly wielded a knife and baseball bat in footage of the incident.
"I got me jocks on and I was into it," Mr Middleton told 7News.

The footage shows Mr Middleton grasping one of the teens' shirt and using him as a shield against oncoming attacks from would-be thieves.
"It was pure instinct," Mr Middleton said.
Mr Middleton said he launched into action before calling the police, only taking a moment to avoid indecent exposure.
