Several long-time residents have predicted flood waters will rise above the bridge on the Princes Highway at Panmure and on the Hopkins Falls Road above the falls.
The SES has already started sandbagging several houses at Panmure and holds fears for low-lying properties at Allansford.
There are also fears that a second peak in water levels will occur along the Mount Emu Creek, with Skipton affected by a slightly higher peak 15 hours behind the initial peak.
The Mount Emu Creek meets the Hopkins River at the junction, a few hundred metres above the Hopkins Falls.
