His late dad Peter trained numerous winners from his Warrnambool stables including the 1976 Grand Annual Steeplechase with Blackson but Andrew would love to win Terang's Peter Blank Sprint which is run on Sunday.

This year's version of the $30,000 race over 1125 metres has attracted ten final acceptors and Homann has veteran galloper High Cost in the field.

"The Peter Blank Sprint was an iconic race on the local racing calendar," Homann told The Standard.

"I can remember as a child huge crowds would attend the meeting on New Years Day. They were wonderful social days but the world has changed and we've had to change with it.

"Terang now race on January 2, instead of January 1. I would love to win the race. I've got my fingers crossed High Cost will be up to the challenge.

"He's getting on in years but his recent form is not too bad. He drops a lot in weight in the Peter Blank compared to his previous runs and we've taken the blinkers off him.

Homann has booked the services of apprentice jockey Lachlan Neindorf to steer the nine-year-old in the feature race on the seven event program.

The first race is set down to begin at 1.15pm with the last scheduled to start at 5.00pm.
