Lafferty won on Nuriya for Baker while Golwen was successful with Kelly aboard for Withers.
Baker said Lafferty's ride won the race for her lightly raced mare.
"It was a terrific ride by Laura," Baker told The Standard.
"She's been riding trackwork for me and that's been a big bonus. Laura is a great judge of pace and never seems to panic. Laura had Nuriya well placed in the run after drawing a wide barrier.
"Nuriya's owners have been very patient. The win is a great result for them.
I've got to thank local trainer Patrick Ryan for encouraging me to buy Golwen in an online auction.
- Geoff Withers
"She's taken a long time to mature but it looks like the penny is just starting to drop.
"We've always had a good opinion of her after we purchased her as a yearling in Melbourne.
"We'll look at entering Nuriya for the Woodford meeting at Warrnambool on New Years Eve but I think we may run her again at Terang on January 2."
Golwen having his second start for Withers won a restricted race over 1200 metres. "Golwen was perfectly ridden by Alana," Withers said. "Alana got the split near the 200-metre mark and the race was never in doubt after that. I'm still learning about Golwen. I've got to thank local trainer Patrick Ryan for encouraging me to buy Golwen in an online auction."
Warrnambool trainer Lindsey Smith took the training honours winning three races while top jockey Dean Yendall was taken to Warrnambool's Southwest Healthcare for observation after he fell from Saintly Rose in a maiden over 1600 metres.
