The league, led by returning president Kylie Murphy, posted a net profit of $29,832.18, a $42,392 turnaround on the doomed 2020 campaign which was cancelled due to coronavirus restrictions.

It had $98,712 income, up $67,841 on 2020. Expenses were up $25,448 on the year prior but a dramatic increase in sponsorship income - which soared to $43,974 from $768 - and competition management fees helped post the healthy profit.

Murphy said the league was on strong footing heading into 2022.

"We are happy with it compared to the year before where we didn't have a season," she said.

"It probably has helped we didn't have the financial cost of AFL Western District. That's probably helped with a big chunk, even though we're now paying (secretary) Peter Martin.

"I think we're quite happy with how things are sitting."

Murphy said the league had lost some sponsorship money - due to COVID-19 - but said the league's remaining sponsors had been loyal.

"We did lose one or two and some things like that because of COVID. Some dropped what they're paying but otherwise people and sponsors were quite good," she said.

"Heading into 2022 I think the board and the clubs once they see it will be pretty happy.

The WDFNL has $80,252 banked, a significant climb from the $42,507 it recorded at its 2020 annual general meeting. Its total assets also grew to $89,090 from $61,499 in 2020.

Murphy thanked clubs, umpires, sponsors and her board in her president's report following a challenging year in which the league was forced to pull the pin prior to finals as COVID-19 restrictions wreaked havoc.

"We started the season off perfectly until round eight. From then on it went downhill and we have had numerous amounts of stopping and starting the last half of the season," she said.

"It is testament to the 10 club presidents, AFL Western District and the board to have stayed focused for their clubs, players, coaches, volunteers, umpires, and the community in this pandemic.

"You all need to be congratulated."

The WDFNL fixture is expected to be released in coming weeks.
