Warrnambool City Netball Association to host junior association champs in 2022

NV awarded WCNA hosting duties this week and the event will be on June 5.

The association most recently held the championships in 2019 and this year's event was at Ballarat.

WCNA's Marg Morgan explained hosting duties don't just alternate and associations need to apply for the honour.

She said teams would be coming from as far as Castlemaine to compete.

"It's really exciting, it's a positive for netball in our area," she said.

She added the tournament also presented as an opportunity for talent identification.

The tournament to be held at Warrnambool stadium is for 13 and under 15 and under and 17 and under.

The netballers will also use the The Arc Stadium adjacent to Warrnambool stadium as was the case in 2019.

There'll be five indoor courts available as well as the outdoor courts.

Morgan explained it was a western zone qualifying day and also consisted of teams from the central highlands and Glenelg regions.

There'll be teams from Warrnambool City, the Hampden league and Warrnambool and District league.

Sides are likely to be selected a couple of months before the tournament.

In 2019, the top-two in each age group at the association championships progressed to the next stage in Melbourne.

Three Hampden league sides were successful at the 2021 edition of the championships.
