2022 Australian Open trophies coming to Warrnambool

Aussie tennis legend John Fitzgerald, an Australian Open ambassador, is also coming to the seaside city.

He won six singles titles, 30 doubles titles - including seven grand slams - and captained the Australian Davis Cup team.

The shiny duo and 'Fitzy' will be at Warrnambool Lawn Tennis Club on Pertobe Road from 5.30pm on Thursday.

WLTC president Kim Tobin said anyone interested was welcome to come to the event.

"Anyone who wants to come down and meet Fitzy and have a photo taken with the cups, he'll be there from 5.30pm," she said.

They'll also be live music, a barbecue and it's Morton Cup finals night.

The corporate tournament has been running for three weeks.

The corporate cup has featured 24 teams among three grades.

"It's pretty consistent with what we usually have so to get those numbers again obviously after the lockdown is great," Tobin said.

She suspects Fitzgerald may also present the club with its recent Victorian Tennis most outstanding tournament award.

He may also present the awards to the Morton Cup winners too.

The club is also going to host the 2021 Victorian Seniors Tennis Tournament from December 10-12.

It's open to players aged 30 years and over and entries close December 6.

WLTC hosted the tournament for the first time last summer.

Th upcoming Australian Open is on from January 17 to January 30 at Melbourne Park.
