A woman accused of murdering her partner at a Port Fairy caravan park was visibly upset when she learnt the victim had died from a fatal stab wound, a court was told.
Jessica Wilson, 37, is standing trial in Warrnambool Supreme Court after pleading not guilty to the alleged murder of Marcus Adams at Port Fairy's Catalina Caravan Park in the early hours of September 20, 2019.
It is not disputed that Mr Adams died of a fatal stab wound but lawyers for Ms Wilson said she acted in self-defence, while the prosecution alleged she either intended to seriously injure or kill, or "unnecessarily" defended herself.
On Monday, Senior Constable Janielle Kaye told the court that Ms Wilson was visibly upset and crying when she was advised at the Warrnambool police station that her partner was deceased.
The police officer said she was called to the Catalina Caravan Park on the night of the incident and first spoke to the accused woman at the scene.
She said the accused woman said the victim had scared her, that he had a hammer and he grabbed her by the throat before pushing her against a bed.
She said Ms Wilson repeatedly asked if Mr Adams, who at that time was receiving CPR, was going to be OK.
The jury heard from a number of police members who attended the caravan park on the night of the fatal incident, including two officers who said they did not observe any injuries to Ms Wilson.
A major crime scene examiner told jurors that a search of the caravan uncovered blood stains on the floor and bed, a spoon containing a crystallised substance, knives and a hammer.
The knife and hammer were shown to the jury.
A former partner of the victim told the court that Mr Adams was a loving father who showed no signs of violence, although she said she twice applied for an intervention order against him.
The court heard the applications were made in 2012 and again in 2017 as the woman believed Mr Adams' temper was becoming worse as a result of an ice addiction.
She said that when the man was on drugs he often wouldn't sleep and would make threats but was "never physically violent".
The trial continues.
