Warrnambool residents have been urged to show their support for survivors and victims of child sexual assault by tying a ribbon on the fence of Star of the Sea church in Lava Street.
A LOUD fence spokeswoman said she hoped organisations and institutions would join with community members to acknowledge past crimes and acknowledge they will no longer allow children to be hurt or silenced.
"The LOUD fence movement began in Ballarat to send a message of hope to survivors of institutional abuse," the spokeswoman said. "The tying of ribbons to a fence is viewed as a symbol that communities are committed to ending the silence."
The original LOUD fence is the front fence of the former St Alipius Boys School site in Ballarat.
In 2015, members of the community were invited to tie brightly coloured ribbons onto the fence as a show of support to victims and survivors of child sexual abuse at the school and other institutions. "It shows that we all want survivors and victims to know that we believe them, that we care for them and we will not let this happen again," the spokeswoman said.
The spokeswoman said the movement had spread around the world. "We now have people around the world showing support by placing ribbons on their letter boxes, on their workplace doors, church gates etc," she said.
"The response has been nothing short of amazing."
Warrnambool residents are urged to show their support by tying a ribbon on the fence from 3.30pm on Saturday.
