Warrnambool's Airlie O'Brien will have access to some of science's brightest minds when she attends the National Youth Science Forum (NYSF) in January.

The Warrnambool Rotary Club endorsed and fully funded Airlie's $1900 spot in the residential science program, which encourages young people in their passion for science.
Airlie who is in year 11 at Warrnambool College, is completing year 12 subjects this year and is in the college's Select Entry Accelerated Learning Program.

She said it "was pretty surprising and exciting" to receive funding to attend the forum. "Science is the thing I understand and I enjoy doing," she said.
"If we get to do the week in Melbourne you get to visit the universities and the labs and get to see that side of science. Usually it's held in Canberra and Brisbane but because of COVID-19 they're organising a hub in every state.
"You get to choose what field of science you're hoping to look into over the program. It's going to be really interesting to hear from people in the research field and all different aspects of science," she said.
Airlie said she was looking forward to the forum, which would give her behind the scenes access. She hopes to go onto study a Bachelor of Science at university.
Youth officer George McLeod said the club was always looking to support students. "Airlie was highly recommended by colleagues and keenly interested in attending the program so we were happy to offer sponsorship," Mr McLeod said.
