Camperdown coach Leah Sinnott eager to work with new faces at Magpies

Sinnott is coming off a wonderful three-year stint with Timboon Demons in the Warrnambool and District league.

She led the Dees to second spot this season and was awarded the league's netball coach of the year.

Sinnott returns to the Magpies - a club she coached in the past and played more 300 games for - feeling refreshed.

She admitted coaching Camperdown again wasn't really on her radar until recently.

"I've always been open with them (Timboon) to give two to three years so that wasn't a surprise that was coming to an end," she said.

"And I hadn't thought far beyond that to be honest."

That's when friend and former teammate Tracey Baker got in her ear about coming back to lead the Magpies.

Sinnott admits she's always conscious of not overstaying her tenure in a coaching role.

As she says "I tend to think once I've done two or three seasons, everyone has heard everything I have to say".

But she's ready to lead at Leura Oval.

"It's a different group of girls and a lot of young ones," she said.

"So I thought I could give something again."

Her focus will be on bringing the group together and building respect and trust.

Sinnott has coached at just about every level at Camperdown.

"The last lot of juniors I had were the likes of Chelsea and Krystal Baker and there are quite a few around now that I haven't coached directly," she said.

"I know Campedown has some exciting kids coming through under 13s, 15s and 17s."

Sinnott said the Magpies would look to catch up before Christmas and then hit the track early next year.

She's looking forward to spending more time at the club where she has coached teams to grand finals.

"It's where I played since 1999, my kids we grew up at the club, I've got lifelong friends there," she said.

"New families come and go, some have remained.

"Who doesn't want a opportunity to catch up with mates each weekend.

"It's always had a great atmosphere and it's a very family-friendly club."

She also spoke highly of Timboon Demons' welcoming and family-friendly culture.

She was humbled to receive the WDFNL coach of the year award.

"There are great coaches in that league, it's always a nice one that one where you're acknowledged by other coaches in that system I suppose those things are a quiet reward for effort," she said.
