Julius had accepted with Just Folk in a lesser race at Moonee Valley on Friday night but after advice from his friend Warrnambool trainer Daniel Bowman, chose the harder group two race for the five-year-old.
Just Folk beat Bowman's group one performer Begood Toya Mother to take out the 1600-metre race.

Julius, who started his training career in Warrnambool before relocating to Bendigo six years ago, said he spoke to Bowman during the week.
"Daniel just said go where you can win and don't overthink things," he told The Standard.
"Daniel is a great mate. He and his wife Denita were really happy Just Folk won but I felt a bit awkward after the win because we had beaten Daniel and Denita who have been wonderful friends of mine. The words of my old boss Ciaron Maher were also ringing through my ears during the week.
"Ciaron would say trust your horse and trust yourself."
Julius said Just Folk, who was bred by his grandparents Maureen and Leo Dwyer at Illowa, will be nominated for the $2 million Kennedy Cantala on the opening day of the VRC carnival this Saturday.
"We've got a couple of options open to Just Folk," he said.
"The first one relates to running in the Cantala this Saturday and the other is to give Just Folk a spell.
"He's had a very good campaign. There's some very nice mile races in the autumn and next winter which we may target Just Folk towards next year but we'll just see how things pan out later in the week."
Just Folk took his stake earnings to more than $330,000 with the Crystal Mile win.
