Police are looking into whether speed, fatigue or impaired driving were factors in a single-vehicle fatal accident near Ellerslie on Thursday.
Acting Sergeant Jason Barker, of the Warrnambool police highway patrol unit, requested that anyone who saw the vehicle on the north side of the Hopkins Highway, between Red Lane and Hexham-Ballangeich Road, contact police.
He said it's believed the accident happened between noon and 2pm involving the silver Toyota HiLux utility.
The accident site is about four kilometres south of the Hopkins River bridge at Ellerslie.
The ute was travelling south towards Purnim and Warrnambool when the driver has crossed the highway, gone off the road and the utility rolled a number of times.
It was a straight stretch of road.
"We are requesting that anyone who was travelling on the highway at that time with dash camera footage provide that footage to us," Acting Sergeant Barker said.
"We will be ascertaining whether speed, fatigue or impaired driver are factors in the collision," he said.
