The city council has received a proposal that would see the rear two squash courts retrofitted to become three group accommodation units.
"The units are to be used to accommodate people away from their normal place of residence. Likely occupants will include key workers associated with the hospital, tourists visiting Warrnambool, or visitors to the hospital," the application states.
Each unit would have a small outdoor area.
"The scale and intensity of the use and development is relatively modest," the proposal states.
"The use provides three units nestled behind the existing squash courts, which will make use of the existing building and will be compatible with the character of the area."
The centre would retain four of its six courts under the proposal.
External works to modernise the building are also included in the planning application.
"External works are proposed to improve the external appearance of the squash courts," the application states.
"The building is to be reclad and provided with new glazing along the front facade and feature cladding."
The site is located within the General Residential Zone.
A squash club spokesman said he couldn't comment until the committee had discussed the plans.
Action Squash Club moved to the Timor Street site in March 2015 after the closure of Action Fitness Centre left the sport without a home.
The club had 80 players when it was based at the Mortlake Road centre before it shut down in January 2014.
Some members travelled to outlying towns, such as Terang, for competitions when it closed.
The council has contacted surrounding property owners to call for submissions or objections on the proposal.
A planning application for a nine lot subdivision in Allansford has also been submitted.
The site, at 39 Ziegeler Parade, would be made up of blocks varying in size between 280-square-metres and 533-square-metres.
An existing dwelling would remain on lot 9, while an existing commercial premises would remain on lot 8.
"The proposed subdivision will be able to provide for future development that facilitates diverse housing that offers choice and meets changing household needs through a mix of housing types and adaptable internal dwelling design," the application submitted to the council states.
