The 29-year-old will line up in defence for his fifth grand final for the Eagles at Adelaide Oval following another strong season by the club's senior side.

Thompson, who hails from Port Campbell, said his side enters the club's 11^th grand final with confidence after beating the Tigers by four points two weeks ago.

"We know they have been the best side all year so we have to play our best footy on the day like we did in the qualifying final when we managed to hold on and get over top of them," he said.

"We are going to need a massive effort by the whole group and have 22 contributors to get over a quality side like Glenelg."

The Eagles' key defender, who played for Timboon Demons before a stint at AFL club Adelaide, said his side had hit form at the right time of the year.

"The boys are playing some good footy at the moment and we have also managed to get a pretty uninjured list so to go back-to-back would be pretty massive after last year," he said.

"It's been well documented that we had lost a heap of players to the draft, which was great for footy club, so to be able to stay around the mark and give ourselves another chance is great."

The Eagles lost Lachie Jones and James Rowe from last year's premiership side this season after they were picked by Port Adelaide and Adelaide in the 2020 national draft.

Thompson said the club had been able to cover the loss of the duo, who both made their AFL debuts this season

"We picked up the Menzel brothers - Troy and Dan - this year," the WISE Employment employee said.

"Troy had a stint at Carlton and Adelaide while Dan was at Geelong and Sydney and they are SA boys so we have picked them up.

"They have been up forward and have been great this year and will be crucial come grand final day.

"We also still have regulars like (2021 Magarey Medallist) James Tsitas, who has had a good year in midfield.

"We also have Jack Hayes who has had a good year up forward and is the best forward in the competition."

Thompson, who has only missed one game this season, said the midfield would be a key battleground in both side's quest for premiership glory.

Woodville-West Torrens finished second on the ladder with 13 wins and five losses. Glenelg only lost one game in the last match of the 18-round home and away season.

The Eagles lost to the Tigers twice this season - 29 points in round two and 19 in round 12.

The father-of-one will have his wife Caitlin and daughter Lacie, 2, cheering on in the reduced-capacity crowd at Adelaide Oval on Sunday.

The Eagles are hunting their fifth SANFL premiership since Woodville and West Torrens merged to create one entity at the end of 1990 season.
