Victorian health minister Martin Foley today revealed the COVID-positive person from Corangamite Shire who travelled through the south-west had been linked to the City of Ballarat.

"There has been a new case in the Corangamite Shire," Mr Foley said.

"This has been directly linked to the Ballarat case from yesterday and has seen a large number of exposure sites across south-western Victoria, some 33 have been uploaded onto the department's website yesterday.

"Whilst mostly Tier 2, there are some Tier 1 sites and I would encourage anyone who had been through those sites to get tested and follow the appropriate instructions.

"Additional testing has been set up in that south-western part of Victoria through our friends at Barwon Health."

The revelation comes as Victoria recorded its highest ever number of new coronavirus infections at 847.

All cases were locally acquired, bringing the state to 7611 active cases.

Sadly, there was one death overnight - a man in his 80s from Hume.

Of yesterday's cases, 79 per cent were aged under 50.

There are 321 people in hospital with COVID, 65 of which are in intensive care and 45 are on a ventilator.

There were 59,342 tests processed yesterday and 37,220 vaccines were administered in state-run hubs.

Currently, 77.1 per cent of Victorians have now received their first dose and 46.9 per cent have been double-dosed.
