Bread deliveries to Warrnambool have been impacted by a positive COVID case at the Dandenong Tip Top Bakery.
It has been noticed in recent days that supplies in Warrnambool supermarkets, including Coles, and at fast food outlets, including KFC, there has been reduced stock available.
South-west KFC franchisee David Bird confirmed that the supply of bread products was an issue that was in the process of being addressed.
Coles' Melbourne head office directed enquiries to Tip Top.
A Tip Top Bakery spokesman said on Wednesday morning the company immediately responded in line with recommendations from Department of Health and Human Services and in line with the Tip Top Bakeries' COVID-19 management plan after the positive case became known.
"This included a deep clean of all key areas on the site and employees identified as close contacts undergoing COVID-19 testing," he said.
"The health and safety of Tip Top staff and contractors is our priority and, as a responsible employer, we continue to implement many precautionary steps to ensure we protect our workforce at this time.
"Our bread supply to retail customers in Victoria has been briefly impacted, operating at about 80 per cent of normal volume at a reduced range.
"However, we anticipate this to resolve by mid next week.
"We thank our consumers and customers for their patience and understanding during this time.
"We support the need for Department of Health & Human Services and government to work collaboratively with food manufacturers and industry to prevent food shortages amidst the ongoing pandemic," he said.
