Family's chose library for place to catch up

Port Fairy librarian Elaine Day said the town's library had enjoyed a busy start to the September holiday period.

"We have had good numbers to start the holidays, a lot of them locals," Mrs Day said.

"As a community facility we can have up to 20 people at a time so that allows us to open and be a good option for people looking for something to do."

Warrnambool parents Viveka Simpson and Renae Turner included a visit to the library during a day trip to Port Fairy with their six-year-olds Elia and Gabriel.

Ms Simpson said libraries had plenty to offer when it came to holiday entertainment.

"The library is a great place for parents and children to catch-up," Ms Simpson said.

"The kids love looking at the books and doing puzzles and as parents it gives us the chance to have a chat.

"It is also a very affordable form of entertainment that we can do in any weather."

Ms Turner said she was excited about the plans in place for the building of a new library in Warrnambool.

"It looks amazing and will be such a great asset for the community," she said.

The new Warrnambool library is set to be a three-storey multi-purpose facility and will cost $20.25 million.
