Of the 61 local cases, 22 were in isolation for the duration of their infectious period.
Forty-eight are linked to known outbreaks.
The Department of Health also said an additional 16 cases had been discovered with rapid PCR testing, and these would be reported in Sunday's numbers.
Victoria managed to administer 29,539 vaccination doses in the 24 hours to Friday evening and conduct 45,670 virus tests for the same period.
Victoria's senior government ministers met on Friday evening to discuss the state's worsening coronavirus situation amid the growing likelihood of tougher restrictions and lockdown being reimposed in the regions.
Late Friday evening the state government said it had told community sporting leagues in regional Victoria to "immediately cancel their activities for this weekend".
A government spokeswoman told The Standard Friday at 8.10pm community sport had been cancelled for the weekend.
"No-one wants to cancel it but...," she said.
She said more announcements would be made on Saturday.

On Friday afternoon there were 12 positive cases of COVID-19 in Shepparton.
The new case of COVID-19 in Shepparton reported, being a male in his 30s.
His immediate family members have been tested for COVID-19, said Goulburn Valley Health chief Matt Sharp.
"This man's extended family from a separate household have been tested for COVID-19 today as well," he said in a statement online.
"There are now an additional 11 people that have tested positive for COVID-19 today bringing the total of the outbreak in Shepparton to 12 at this time.
"All people that have tested positive are family members from two separate households and are now isolating."
Contact tracing is underway and will continue as a primary focus. Anyone identified as a close contact will be contacted directly by the tracing team.
