Warrnambool's women's football side looks ahead to next season

The Blues were to compete in the 2020 season before it was called off due to the coronavirus pandemic and their first crack at the Western Victoria Female Football League was on hold.

They then battled multiple lockdowns pausing their first season, which finished with a 2-6 record, but it's now in the history books and they look to the future.

"We are keen to move into next season as we have managed to get some good sponsorship and funding for next year, we're able to purchase new uniforms for next season and we'll have a new oval," Tilley said.

"We have been dealing with the Deakin (University's the Pond) conditions and we are looking forward to that and all players are keen to keep going.

"We had a lot of fun with a lot of games. I was enjoying chatting to girls and talking footy and seeing how fun it has been."

Despite multiple interruptions to the season, Tilley said she had still seen considerable improvement in her side.

"I was juggling everyone in different positions and they have managed that extremely well," she said.

"I saw huge improvement in basic skills like handballing, kicking and marking, and in different conditions like how to mark in the wet compared to dry and they picked it up well."

Tilley said interest in the Blues program had grown throughout the season with the club having to cap the numbers.

She said the team's social media pages continued to get messages from interested players throughout the season as well.

The Blues' mentor said she had directed them to other clubs in the region to help the continued growth of the WVFFL's senior competition.

"I encourage people to get into footy and the more numbers the merrier," she said.

"We can look at putting in two sides or we can always see if they'd like to go to Terang Mortlake, who need numbers, and that means the more clubs the better."
