FOR the Warrnambool and District followers tipping a Kolora-Noorat and Dennington grand final, David Tatton doesn't have much time for you.The Timboon Demons footballer admitted his side was not on the same level as the Power and Dogs at the start of the season."Our fitness and skills weren't up to scratch," he said. "Dennington were training three times a week (in pre-season) and we were only training once a week."It's just the way Sholly wanted to coach."We didn't need to be up and running in the first round. All we need to be is up and running now, and we are."The Demons are aiming for their 10th straight win tomorrow - a reason why Tatton believes the reigning premier deserves equal status as the top-two."All three of us are pretty much the same," he said. "Kolora-Noorat move the ball really well and run and carry, which is the exact same thing as we do."When we play both of them again it will be good to see where we're at."Hopefully we can knock one or both of them off."For those who think the 2008 Demons were better than this year's, Tatton disagrees."We're doing better than we did this time last year," he said."We've pretty much got third spot and are only one loss below Dennington."To the people saying we're slightly less a side than last year and to Kolora-Noorat and Dennington, I don't really care."We know we're travelling along well."It's hard to believe someone so passionate about the Demons is only in his second year with the club.He came from Warrnambool's reserves after a stint with Hamilton Imperials' under 18 side and a junior career with Hawkesdale-Macarthur.Good mates Andy Rylance and Kyall Timms lured him from the Blues to Timboon Demons.Part of the recruiting deal was transport to training - and not via the traditional carpool.A van takes Tatton, Rylance, Sam Hickey, Rob Bleumink and Eric Price to Timboon and back on Tuesday and Thursday nights.Training at the start of the season was limited for Tatton as the premiership defender struggled with injuries."I cut the top of my finger off at work with a panel saw and missed a week with that, then I was away and then I came back against Kolora-Noorat and did my groin," he said."I missed four of the first five games."It took a couple of rounds to get back into it (after that) and get my match fitness back."It was lucky Tatton found his match fitness as the 22-year-old has been running all over the ground, filling different positions for his side. While he started in familiar territory as a defender, he was then swung onto the wing and last week coach Brad Sholl named him at full-forward. "I'd never really played forward in my life," he said. "(Sholl) just said I can take a strong mark, I'm quick off the mark and I can kick a long ball."His coach's intuition was correct as Tatton booted nine goals - most from set shots. He will start at full-forward again today where he will hope to have a bigger impact than his South Rovers counterpart. It's a tough ask as Lions forward Frank Matthews has stamped himself as one of the league's premier forwards. "Frankie Matthews can kick a goal from anywhere and Drew McCaskill is a very handy player," Tatton said."South Rovers are a hard side and always hard to play at home."I reckon our onballers are better than theirs though."While the battle between third and fourth takes place at Walter Oval, Russells Creek is expected to return to the winner's circle when it takes on Deakin University at The Pond. The Kangaroos will re-enter the five if they record a victory and if Dennington defeat Allansford and Panmure go down to Old Collegians.Kolora-Noorat is expected to be too strong for host Merrivale while Nirranda aims to keep East Warrnambool winless.
