Jermaine Ferguson was one of three teenagers to feature in a film clip for the trio's latest single OG's (featuring Chillinit) which was released on Sunday.
The 13-year-old was one of more than 100 young people who applied for the role, which saw him portray a younger version of Eso, one of the Bliss n Eso group members.
"I hoped I would get it but I was a bit shocked when I got it because it was such a big role," Jermaine said.
"It was a really amazing process."
The Brauer College year 8 student had to learn the song lyrics to OG's for the video, which depicts the trio breaking into a radio station.
Bliss n Eso are an Australian, Sydney-based hip-hop trio whose songs have been streamed more than half a billion times. They are ARIA and APRA award-winning artists. Bliss n Eso's previous three albums have debuted at number one on the ARIA charts and their seventh album The Sun will be released on August 27.
Jermaine said the music video was filmed over two days about three weeks ago.
"It was a great opportunity," Jermaine said. "I loved everything about it, the environment, the people you meet.
"It shows it doesn't matter where you're from. Every role is suited for a different person," he said.
Director Nick Kozakis said they wanted to capture the attitude and essence of Eso in Jermaine's performance.
Mr Kozakis said the clip opened with three kids planning a heist to take over the radio station to broadcast their track only to be met with a showdown with the 'faux' radio station Visible FM security guards.
"The kids had a fun time doing their own stunt and fight co-ordination and in the end, they manage to get away, with the help of their friend, (young bandmate) DJ Izm," Mr Kozakis said.
"The kids had less than a week to learn the advanced raps of the artists and did such an amazing job, not only learning the words but executing their presence on camera.
"They studied by watching video clips, live performances and even having a person to person chat with Bliss n Eso. This helped them understand the intricacies of how each artist performs and they all blew us away on set," Mr Kozakis said.
Jermaine's previous big role was a part in the Melbourne production of High School Musical in January where he played a basketball player.
The teen is a member of the Warrnambool Theatre Company and Holiday Actors and said he enjoyed all elements of performance, including singing, dancing and acting.
Jermaine has some musicals coming up in Warrnambool and said he would wait and see what other roles came along.
He's unsure what he wants to do in the future but hoped it would be performance based. "I'll just wait and see where it takes me," Jermaine said.
