Play was suspended for a number of players on a day that was already delayed by fog because of bad light.
Leishman wrapped up his first round at three-over after a long day on a tough and wind-affected Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego.
The Warrnambool export, who started on the back nine, had five bogeys in his opening round while two birdies on the par-4 fifth and par-5 13th limited the damage.
American Russell Henley and South Africa's Louis Oosthuizen, who still have two holes to play, share the lead after the opening day. The pair finished four-under the card.

Former Masters champion Adam Scott was the highest-placed Australian after the opening round. Scott fired a one-under round of 70.
Cameron Smith was the next best on par but he still has two holes to play in his opening round.
Wade Ormsby (one-over) and Matt Jones (one-over with two holes to play) are the other two Aussies who are ahead of Leishman on the leaderboard.
Fellow Australian Brad Kennedy (three-over) is equal with Leishman while Steve Allan was further back at nine-over the card.
Leishman tees off for his second round at 12.51am (AEST).
