Despite years of banter about the need for its return at the city's monthly council meetings, its inclusion for the first time in the order of business, the public meeting passed without one issue being raised.

General business was removed from meetings about six years ago and, despite talk by the previous councillors about bringing it back to meetings, it was left to the new council to make it happen.

Urgent business also made a return to the order of business for the meeting, but no issues were raised.

As part of the changes under the new governance rules which were adopted last month, public question time was moved from the end of the meeting to the start but none were submitted.

The new rules also allow members of the public to read their questions out loud themselves rather than having them read by the chief executive officer.
