Festival director Philip Liebelt was glad to have Howard on board, and to give the region an insight into the variety of what's on offer throughout the two-week long program.
"Shane was happy to come on board and we're happy for him to be there," Mr Liebelt said. "Because he's a singer, a storyteller and a local person we were very keen to get him.
"He will begin the launch event, introduce the program and we will give the audiences a taste of who will be at the festival."
Mr Liebelt has put the finishing touches on the program which kicks off on June 19.
"The program is all locked in, we'll have a brochure coming out with all the details soon," he said.
"In some sense, it's been a shorter planning process than expected, but I'm very excited with what we've got.
"I'm disappointed not all creative organisations could be involved in the festival but this is the beginning of something that will go on in the future and it'll keep getting bigger and better."
Many of the south-west's creative groups banded together to create the jam-packed program for the inaugural festival.
Dirty Angel Comedy, Warrnambool Theatre Company and 3WayFM are some of the community groups organising events.
"A number of us have been working together for the festival," Mr Liebelt said. "The Tin Shed Singers, 3WayFM and the Theatre Clube are doing a radio play of an adaptation of a children's storybook which will go live to air in front of a live audience.
"Dirty Angel bringing a Melbourne International Comedy Festival performer Aidan Jones to the program.
